The 13th Annual Silver Room Sound System Block Party, presented by Downtown Hyde Park Chicago (Special Service Area #61) — "Freedom Love Joy Peace" — serves as a meeting point for the diversity that marks Chicago’s metropolis. "Freedom Love Joy Peace" exemplifies the power of community and the Arts by showcasing varied genres of music, visual arts and dance while merging individuals - engaging Chicago’s young and old alike, who join together to celebrate life.
This free event will take place on Saturday, July 16th, 2016 from 12pm to 10pm, with an after-party at The Promontory to follow from 10pm-2am.
The Sound System Block Party continues to be a platform for famed and up-and-coming artists from the Chicago-land area, bringing them together with other national and increasingly international acts. This is an interactive event that boasts DJs, live music performances, artists, children’s activities, mural artists and excellent food from around the neighborhood. The event will have all-day programming and have two outdoor stages with the Joy Stage on 52nd & Harper Ave., and the Freedom Stage (Main Stage) in Harper Court, as well as neighborhood performances at The Silver Room, The Promontory, A10, Hyde Park Records, Jojayden, Chant and Ancien Cafe. In total, the nine stages/venues will feature over 70 performances.
In cooperation with The Frankie Knuckles Foundation, the Sound System Block Party will curate programming, installation, and staged performances in honor of this pioneer, his work and his influences. Since the passing of Frankie Knuckles two years ago, the music community worldwide has felt the loss of a great Man and his work, so in 2016 we want to bring the Founding Father of House Music’s legacy to back to Chicago where it all started.
